Intro

To manage nearly $700 billion, investment teams at one of the world’s largest pension funds relied on an enormous amount of institutional knowledge. The trick was finding it when they needed it—the right analytics or data could be scattered in a number of locations across the organization. Teams had to know where to look.

The firm needed a common foundation that could bring its knowledge together, protect sensitive information and work across different investment workflows.

Publicis Sapient helped build that foundation. Leveraging decades of industry and technical expertise, we worked with the pension fund to chart new ways to manage and access knowledge.

The Problem

Investment decisions depend on accessing a constellation of internal and external research, including earnings call transcripts, broker reports and portfolio risk analytics. How quickly a decision is made often comes down to how quickly teams can pull together and analyze this information.

More than one million documents and other enterprise knowledge artifacts were scattered across department-specific repositories and databases. Accessing critical research could turn into a multi-hour search for the right sources or expertise.

Without one governed way to connect and access siloed structured data and fragmented unstructured documents, investment professionals spent valuable time searching instead of analyzing. The firm needed a secure, scalable way to quickly access knowledge.

The Solution

Publicis Sapient worked with the firm to build an accessible knowledge foundation, powered by AI, that gives both people and AI agents the context they need to make faster, more informed investment decisions.

Using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), the intelligence platform connected enterprise documents and databases through a single, natural-language chat interface. Automated document classification and redaction protected sensitive information, while advanced search techniques and structured prompts improved the results’ relevance and accuracy.

The platform also acted as an orchestration system, coordinating specialized agents and supplying each with the right context to work together and produce trustworthy answers. One agent could identify the data needed for a business question, while another could locate the right sources and retrieve the data. This multi-agent foundation brought different tasks together so users didn’t have to know which system held the answers.

By bringing previously siloed knowledge together and orchestrating agents across workflows, the platform made information accessible to a much wider group of employees. Teams could find and use trusted insights on their own, while built-in access controls and sensitive-information redaction kept confidential data protected.

With the intelligence platform in place, teams could build on shared knowledge access, context, integrations and controls rather than start again for each new use case. This increased investment researcher efficiency by 30 percent as we scaled AI across the investment lifecycle, from portfolio and risk analytics to investment discovery and quarterly due diligence.

The Impact

By breaking down organizational siloes, the pension fund turned fragmented information into actionable knowledge. Investment teams were able to make decisions 33 percent faster on new investment deals, as relevant insights that once took hours to locate could be surfaced in minutes. This gave investment teams a simpler way to work, helping them respond more quickly to market events and execute investment strategies with greater speed and confidence.

The impact went beyond faster investment decisions. An intuitive chat interface helped drive strong adoption within the first six months, making AI part of employees’ daily work and contributing to a shift in culture. As teams grew more comfortable using AI to support research and analysis, they could spend less time gathering information and more time digesting it, evaluating investment opportunities and making informed decisions.
